Dr. Allen received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1997. He then completed his post-doctoral Masters degree in Distraction Osteogenesis with the Oral Surgery and Plastic Surgery Department at the University of Texas Health Science Center in 1999, where he completed his training in orthodontics. Dr. Allen is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and is also a graduate of the Roth Williams Center of Functional Occlusion and the Arnett Surgical Treatment Planning Center. Dr. Allen is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists and served as Secretary-Treasurer for the Charlotte Dental Society Board from 2004 to 2009.     

Dr. Allen is one of the top five Premier Invisalign® Providers in the region and lectures throughout the area. He has been published in the American Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and in the Journal of Dental Research.  Dr. Allen has been included in
topDentists from 2007 through 2009, which has been published in Charlotte Magazine and is listed at usatopdentists.com. Based on an exhaustive peer-review survey of hundreds of dentists and specialists in the Charlotte area, inclusion is considered a top honor!  He regularly attends meetings and continuing education classes to help maintain the cutting edge of current orthodontic technique. 
                                         
Dr. Allen is a long-time resident of North Carolina and has been practicing in the Charlotte and Lake Norman area since 1999. When not working, Dr. Allen enjoys spending time with his wife, Shawna and daughters, Menke and Izzy, as well as his niece and nephew, Sophie and Paxton. Often, you will find him running around with his two golden retrievers and tag along Maltese.
